about

RUDNAK communications is available for both long-term/retainer relationships and individual projects, whether locally or abroad.

Derek Rudnak launched RUDNAK communications in 2002 as a part-time business to explore freelance copywriting opportunities, a departure from his then-current duties as editor-in-chief at VCN Newspapers in Sacramento, California.

Rudnak immediately earned a reputation as a cutting-edge copywriter with a powerful and concise style. His work with Ernesto Delgado of eFire Creative in Sacramento (with whom he still regularly collaborates) helped Delgado garner many awards, especially for collateral pieces created for Zócalo, an award-winning contemporary Mexican cuisine hot spot.

In 2008, Rudnak became a full-time freelancer in San Francisco, with a slight break in 2009 when he was became a senior content specialist at Atlanta interactive marketing group AVID Design.

Derek RudnakAbout Derek Rudnak

For nearly his entire life, Derek Rudnak had always known he would become a writer. What kind of writer, of course, was another question, but the journey that continues to this day has been very rewarding for him—and over the last 15 years, for his clients and employers as well.

Following graduation from the prestigious School of Communications at Henry W. Grady High School in Atlanta (where Rudnak was editor-in-chief of the the school’s top-ranked student newspaper), he studied Journalism at The University of Georgia, leaving shortly before graduation to pursue an education in Film Theory and Criticism at Brooklyn College, before eventually graduating magna cum laude from Georgia State University with a B.A. in Communications and a minor in Film Studies.

A lifelong commitment to a scholarly understanding of communications and an unorthodox pattern of following his passions and trusting his instincts have helped him become a remarkably diverse communications guru. Along with his writing prowess, Rudnak is also a gifted visual communicator, savvy marketing strategist and efficient project manager…as well as an accomplished musician and artist.

Much of his creative and technical range can be traced to his father, Theo Rudnak. Perhaps best known for his award-winning illustrations, Theo’s background in television and publishing exposed Derek to the amazing possibilities that are available…especially for people that have talent and ambition.

In recent years, Rudnak was the director of marketing and communications at the San Mateo County Medical Association and an SEO and PPC editor at NexTag, Inc. (both in San Mateo, California) where he helped build the company’s writing staff, and an editor at PR Newswire‘s San Francisco bureau.

His rich background in print and electronic media certainly helps explain Rudnak’s unique ability to seamlessly integrate any number of media and marketing techniques—both traditional and emerging—which is very much a hallmark of marketing communications in the 21st century.
